Outdoor carpet tiles are sold in different types. The pile, backing and quality of the carpet required for an outside space depends on what the outdoor carpets are going to be used for and what type of problem its need to solve. For example, in areas where moisture can be a problem, marine outdoor rug is often installed.

Marine outdoor carpet tiles are usually made with an olefin top layer and a rubber backing. The back of marine blankets is designed to hold water instead of letting it slip on floors. Marine carpet is named after its primary use on boats and boat trailers. But indoor-outdoor marine carpets can also be installed indoors like in basements where moisture is a problem. The marine carpet is also handy in garages, on terraces and around swimming pools.

Unlike marine outdoor blankets that are usually cut to fit and then glued down with marine rug glue, grass outdoor carpet tiles is available in tile with a peel and stick support. However, these tiles cannot support marine. So they are not recommended for humid or exposed outside areas. High quality types of grass outdoor blankets with marine backing are recommended if the rug is necessary for uncovered areas outdoors or damp areas indoors.
